Linky time.

March 22, 2009

Not much to write…that’s a lie, but I would rather post some links to some Kabobfest articles of interest:

1. An article about the appropriation of Islam in american culture…via Urban Outfitters

2. This article about Arabs in Hollywood-mostly films about Arabs, and this one person’s review of them.

3. And a little bit of blogging against homophobia in Syria

if you have a chance, check it out this weekend: a2palestinefilmfest.org

I know its only two more days.  I went last night to see Make A Wish and Salt of This Sea.  I enjoyed both.  Salt was beautifully made.  The acting was ok.  As much as I love Suheir Hammad, I feel her acting turns into how she performs spoken word.  Just that blatent “YOU DON’T KNOW ME!” comes out…which I love…but it wasn’t acting per say.  I could identify with her character, being born in diaspora (she- Palestinian American, me-Iraqi American), and still having the desire to reclaim a land that is completely detached from her, both in material and emotionally.

I did wear my kuffiye.  After the film, we went to starbucks hahahaha.  and i was hanging out with Palestinian friends ahhahahaha.  Why didn’t we just go to Bigby or something?  I mean, the list of company’s sending money to Israel is endless!  To boycott would be impossible…and inconsequential.  We gotta think bigger.  So now i don’t feel bad for buying  a damn latte.  I do feel bad that people have to live everyday under an inhumane occupation.
